Quick Answers:

This is a summarized section that includes everything I talked about in other areas, except without all the learning. So if you just want simple answers and don't want to expand your mind or understand how and why things work, this is the spot for you.

How to stop Spyware:

If you are infected already:

Get these programs:

Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/
Ad-Aware Download.com
30 day trial SpySweeper Download.com
Microsoft Anti-Spyware Microsoft

If you want to stop getting it:

Stop doing this!!:

1) Installing Kazaa, Morpheus or any of those file trading programs. Buys them if you want them its only $30 and they wont come with spyware.
2) Saying yes if your browser prompts you to install anything

Possibly do this:
Get Mozilla Firefox. Its an alternative browser to Internet explorer. Its new and so there is not much spyware written for it. If you have a Mac, this is the only good browser out there for it, you should be using it as well. Its is cross platform and works as well as Internet Explorer.

Virus Scanner:
Get AVG! Go to http://www.grisoft.com/ download the free edition of AVG, install it, update it and you are set. Its great protection with frequent updates at $0.00 cost to you.

Stopping Spam:
Install Thunderbird! Go to www.mozilla.org and get their email client called thunderbird. Its just like outlook express, but has junk mail filters. Its free, and you can even get it for Mac or Linux.

Getting a firewall:
If you have windows XP, Get Service Pack 2 (sp2). If you have an older version of windows try Sygate Personal Firewall.

Stopping Pop-Ups:
Once again Windows XP Service Pack 2 contains a Pop-Up blocker in Internet Explorer... for those of you without XP use Google Toolbar or try switching to Mozilla Firefox as your web browser.

Misc Maintanance:

Get
CCleaner It cleans Cookies, Browser History, Temp Files and even fixes problems in the registry (Windows' "System Settings" database). Run CCleaner everytime before doing a spyware or virus scan and it will shave time off the scan and maybe even delete the viruses you are looking for as they like to hid in temp folders.
